Liftsmith is a personal workout tracking app. This policy states plainly what the app does with your information.

Summary

Your workout records, body measurements and progress photos are never sent to the developer. The developer cannot receive, store or see them. This app has no developer server.

Four things leave your device.

  1. Usage statistics — which screens and features you use (never the contents of your records). Can be turned off in Settings.
  2. Error reports — why the app crashed, if it does. Can be turned off in Settings.
  3. Sync between devices (optional, off by default) — only when you turn it on yourself, your workout records and body measurements are stored in your own Google Drive. Progress photos are not uploaded.

Items 1 and 2 go to the developer. Items 3 and 4 do not — they go only to your own Google account. 3 and 4 are separate switches and they go to different places — Drive and Google Photos are not the same thing.

What the app stores on your device

  • Workout records — date, exercise, weight and reps per set, duration
  • Body measurements — weight, body fat, skeletal muscle mass, circumferences, fitness test results
  • Progress photos — taken in the app or chosen by you (app-private internal storage)
  • Settings — reminder times, background image, plan edits

No other app can read this data, and it is not sent to the developer.

If you turn on sync between devices, your workout records, body measurements and settings are also stored in your own Google Drive (photos excluded). See Sync between devices below.

What leaves your device

1. Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

Sent: which screens you opened, which features you tapped, app version, device model, OS version, approximate location (country level, inferred from IP), advertising ID.

Not sent: any numbers such as weight, reps, body fat or measurements; progress photos in any form; notes or anything you typed; your name, email or phone number; precise location.

2. Error reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

If the app crashes we receive the stack trace, device model, OS version, app version, and a short trail of what the app was doing (for example "opened Settings").

Workout records and body measurements are never included in error reports.

3. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The app shows Google AdMob ads.

AdMob uses your advertising ID and device information (model, OS version, approximate location) to serve ads. Your workout records, body measurements and photos are not used for advertising and are not shared with advertisers.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before any advertising data is used.

You can buy Remove ads in Settings. Google Play handles the payment — the app never sees your card or payment method, and neither receives nor stores it. All the app knows is whether you bought it, and that fact is written only on your device.

How to turn statistics off

Settings → "Send usage statistics". Turning it off stops further sending from that moment. Data already sent cannot be recalled.

Who receives this

All of the above is handled by Google LLC — statistics and error reports by Firebase, ads by AdMob, and sync by your own Google Drive. Google's practices: firebase.google.com/support/privacy

Progress photos

  • You can take a photo in the app or pick an existing one with the Android photo picker.
  • The app does not request camera permission even when taking a photo. It hands off to your device's camera app and receives only the single resulting image. It cannot see anything else through the camera.
  • When picking from your library, the app does not request full gallery access and cannot see photos you did not choose.
  • Photos are re-encoded on save, which removes all EXIF data including GPS location, device information and capture time. Photos taken in the app go through the same process.
  • Photos are kept in app-private internal storage. Other apps cannot read them even with file access permission.
  • If you do not connect it, photos never leave your device. They are not included in statistics, error reports, or the AI coach text. Sending photos to Google Photos is an optional feature and it is off by default — see “Photos in Google Photos” below.

Health data (Health Connect / Samsung Health)

Only active if you grant permission.

  • Write: completed workout sessions (start and end time, exercise segments) are written to Health Connect.
  • Read: heart rate during that workout is read and shown in the summary.
  • This is exchanged only with Health Connect on your device. The app does not send it anywhere.
  • You can revoke permission in system settings at any time; the rest of the app keeps working.

Sync between devices (optional, off by default)

For seeing the same records on more than one phone. It runs only when you tap it in Settings — nothing is uploaded until you do. It never turns itself on.

Where it is stored: inside your own Google Drive, in an app-private hidden space (appDataFolder).

  • It does not appear in your Drive, and no other app can read it.
  • The developer cannot reach it. Data goes from your phone straight to Google, never through a developer server.
  • Uninstalling the app makes Google delete this space too.

Only one permission is requested: drive.appdata. It grants access to that app-private space alone — the app cannot even list the other files in your Drive.

What is uploaded: workout records (date, exercise, weight and reps per set), body measurements, plan settings and edit history, and photo metadata (date, angle, file name).

What is not uploaded: progress photo files (in any form), name, email, phone number, location, and the contents of usage statistics or error reports.

Progress photos: the image files themselves never travel. Only metadata does, so other devices show file missing. To move photos, use Move progress photos in Settings.

Accounts: this app does not create accounts. There is no developer server and no user account. Signing in to Google is only to reach your own Drive, and the app never sees your sign-in details.

Deleting: Settings then Sync between devices then Delete synced data removes the copy in Drive immediately. The records on your phone are left untouched.

Photos in Google Photos (optional · off by default)

This keeps your photos even if you lose the phone. It runs only when you turn it on in Settings; until then not a single photo leaves the device. It is a separate switch from sync between devices — turning one on does not turn on the other.

Where it goes: a Liftsmith album inside your own Google Photos. It goes from your phone straight to Google without passing through the developer. The developer cannot reach it.

Three permissions are requested, and all three reach only what this app created.

  • photoslibrary.appendonly — creating the album and uploading photos
  • photoslibrary.readonly.appcreateddata — reading that album back to restore on a new phone
  • photoslibrary.edit.appcreateddata — removing a photo from the album when you delete it in the app

Your other photos are not visible to the app. Nothing this app did not upload is even listed.

What goes up: the photo file the app saved. It is re-encoded on save, so it uploads with EXIF already stripped, including capture location (GPS).

What does not go up: the workout screen background image, and list thumbnails.

The photos also stay on your device. Even with this on, the app keeps the originals, so you can view and compare photos in airplane mode.

Deleting: deleting a photo in the app removes it from the device and from the Liftsmith album. It does, however, stay in your Google Photos library — Google does not allow an app to delete photos from your library. To remove it completely, delete it in the Google Photos app.

Disconnecting: uploading stops. Your photos on the device and the album are both left alone.

AI coach (optional)

The app does not connect to any AI service. It composes a text containing your plan and recent records and shows it on screen. Which AI you paste it into, or whether you do at all, is entirely your choice.

The text contains: your plan structure, the last 8 weeks of workout records, the last 12 weeks of body measurements, names of stalled exercises, and any request you typed yourself.
It does not contain: progress photos in any form, file paths, internal identifiers, your name, email, account or device identifiers, location, or heart rate read from Health Connect.

You can read the full text on screen before exporting it. Pasted replies are not applied automatically — only the items you select are applied, and they can be undone.

About the AI provider: the pricing, terms and data handling of whichever AI service you choose are between you and that provider. The developer is not involved and cannot know. Free tiers often use input for model training, so check before using one.

When data leaves by your choice

  1. Manual export — Settings → Export writes a JSON file to a location you choose.
  2. Android automatic backup — if Google Backup is on, workout records and settings may be backed up to your own Google account. This is an Android feature and the developer cannot access it. Progress photos are excluded from this backup.

What the app does not do

  • It does not send your workout records, body measurements or photos to the developer.
  • It does not sell data.
  • It does not collect precise location.
  • It does not access contacts, call logs, messages or the microphone.

Deleting your data

  • Everything on the device — uninstalling the app deletes it.
  • The synced copy in Drive — Settings then Sync between devices then Delete synced data. Uninstalling also makes Google delete it, and you can remove it yourself under Google Account, Data and privacy, Apps.
  • Photos uploaded to Google Photos — deleting a photo in the app removes it from the Liftsmith album. To remove it from your library you have to delete it in the Google Photos app.
  • Backup files you exported yourself — yours to delete.
  • Statistics and error reports already sent — email the address below to request deletion.

This app does not create accounts. There is no developer server, so there is no account to delete.

Children

This app is not directed to children under 13.

Permissions

  • Internet — usage statistics, error reports, ads, and sync between devices (if turned on)
  • Notifications — workout reminders at times you set
  • Boot completed — so reminders survive a restart
  • Health Connect exercise / heart rate — Samsung Health integration (only if granted)
  • View network connections — comes with the reminder scheduling library (WorkManager)
  • Advertising ID — collected by Firebase Analytics and AdMob
  • Google Drive app data (drive.appdata) — sync between devices (only if you turn it on). The app cannot see other files in your Drive.
  • Google Photos (photoslibrary.appendonly) — photos in Google Photos (only if you turn it on). Creating the album and uploading.
  • Google Photos (photoslibrary.readonly.appcreateddata) — reading back only the photos this app uploaded, on a new phone.
  • Google Photos (photoslibrary.edit.appcreateddata) — removing a photo from the album when you delete it in the app.

The app does not request camera or photo access permission.

Changes

If what the app does with information changes, this policy is updated before the change ships. Changes are recorded here with their dates.
